Step-by-step manual
Self-exclusion in Portugal
Portugal's self-exclusion for online gambling is managed by the regulator, SRIJ. Under the online gambling regime, the minimum exclusion is three months; you can choose a longer fixed period or leave it open-ended. Since 8 April 2026 a single SRIJ online form sends your request to every licensed online operator at once, so you no longer need to exclude site by site. Once active, operators must block access and stop marketing to you. Online exclusion does not automatically cover land-based casinos and bingo halls, which have their own access-ban procedure, and it cannot reach unlicensed sites. Pairing it with blocking software and a bank block is recommended.

The steps
- 1
Gather your details
You will need your full name as on your ID, nationality, date of birth, ID document type and number (for example, Cartão de Cidadão, including the check digit) and your tax number (NIF).
- 2
Open the SRIJ form
Use the self-exclusion form on the SRIJ section of the Turismo de Portugal website. There is no fee.
- 3
Choose the period
The legal minimum is three months. You can set a longer end date or leave the period undefined for an open-ended exclusion.
- 4
Submit and keep the confirmation
Once submitted, the request is communicated to all licensed online operators. Keep a copy of your confirmation in case you need to complain later.
- 5
Cover land-based gambling separately
If casinos or bingo halls are a problem, ask SRIJ about a separate access ban for land-based venues, as the online form does not cover them.
- 6
Block the gaps
Unlicensed .com sites do not check SRIJ data. Install blocking software and ask your bank whether it can block gambling payments.
- 7
Report breaches
If a licensed operator lets you play or keeps marketing to you while excluded, keep evidence and file a complaint with SRIJ.
- 8
Ending the exclusion
A fixed-period exclusion ends when the period expires. To end an open-ended one, contact SRIJ and check the current revocation rules; the three-month minimum always applies.
Before you start — what to know
- Minimum period: three months. Longer fixed periods and open-ended exclusions are possible.
- The April 2026 SRIJ form covers all licensed online operators with a single request.
- Land-based casinos and bingo halls need a separate procedure.
- Operators must stop marketing once the exclusion is active; continued marketing can be reported to SRIJ.
- Closing an account with one operator is not self-exclusion, because you could still open accounts elsewhere.
