Lie/Bet quick screen
Two questions, thirty seconds. Used by clinicians worldwide as a first check for gambling problems.
Private by design. Everything runs in your browser. We don't store, send or track your answers โ and this is a screening aid, not a diagnosis.
What next?
A short screen trades depth for speed. For a fuller picture, take the PGSI self-assessment. If secrecy around gambling is already affecting a relationship, our guide on how to talk about gambling may help.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the Lie/Bet screen come from?
It was developed by Johnson and colleagues in 1997 as a brief screen derived from the DSM-IV pathological gambling criteria. It is used by doctors and support services as a quick first check.
Why only two questions?
Escalating stakes (tolerance) and lying about gambling are two of the most telling signs of a developing problem. Two questions are quick enough to use in a busy clinic, but they are only a first step.
