Gambling support in Portugal is anchored in the public health system. The national addictions institute (ICAD, successor to SICAD) coordinates prevention and treatment, and its Linha Vida phone line, one of the oldest helplines in the country, takes calls about all addictive behaviours, including online gambling, from players, families and professionals. Treatment is available through public addiction response teams in each region, usually free of charge. Peer support is offered by Jogadores Anónimos groups. Licensed operators must provide responsible-gambling information, limits and self-exclusion, and part of the IEJO tax revenue is allocated to addiction prevention. Online screening tests are useful prompts but not diagnoses; a health professional can assess your situation properly.
