Step-by-step manual
Self-exclusion in Greece
Greece does not have a single national self-exclusion register for online gambling. Instead, every licensed operator must offer self-exclusion and limits under the HGC's player-protection rules, and must stop marketing to excluded players and take reasonable steps to prevent them getting round the exclusion. The HGC consulted in 2023 on a regulator-held record of exclusions, but as of October 2026 players still exclude with each operator individually. Land-based casinos operate their own exclusion procedures. Because illegal sites remain common, blocking software and bank blocks are an important second layer. A self-exclusion should not be confused with a short break, which most operators offer separately.

The steps
- 1
List every account
Write down every licensed site and app where you have an account. Only operators on the HGC's whitelist are legal in Greece.
- 2
Request exclusion in each account
Log in, open the responsible-gambling section and choose self-exclusion rather than a time-out. Choose the longest period you can commit to, or an indefinite exclusion if offered.
- 3
Confirm in writing
If the option is unclear, email customer support asking for self-exclusion and keep the reply. Withdraw any remaining balance first or ask for it to be returned.
- 4
Cover land-based casinos
If you visit casinos, ask each one about its exclusion procedure; bring your ID card.
- 5
Add blocking tools
Install gambling blocking software and ask your bank whether it can block gambling payments, to cover unlicensed sites.
- 6
Get support
Call 1114 for confidential advice and to arrange counselling.
- 7
Ending an exclusion
Operators should not reopen an account before the chosen period ends. For indefinite exclusions, ask the operator for its procedure and expect checks and a cooling-off period.
Before you start โ what to know
- There is no single national online register; exclusion is per operator.
- Operators must stop marketing to excluded players and prevent circumvention.
- A break (time-out) of a few weeks is not the same as self-exclusion.
- Thousands of illegal sites are blocked, but new domains appear constantly; blocking software helps.
- A June 2026 consultation bill proposed bank blocking of payments to unlicensed operators.
