Sweden's national helpline, Stödlinjen, offers free, confidential counselling by phone and chat for people who gamble and for their relatives. It is run by the Centre for Psychiatry Research in Stockholm on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, and counsellors speak Swedish and English, with interpreters available. Responsibility for treatment is shared between the regions (healthcare) and municipalities (social services), so local addiction services can provide gambling treatment, usually free or at low cost. Peer support is available through Spelberoendes Riksförbund and local Gamblers Anonymous groups. Spelpaus.se, the binding national exclusion register, is run by Spelinspektionen, and municipal budget and debt advisers help with financial consequences.
