Step-by-step manual

Self-exclusion in Mexico

Mexico has no national self-exclusion register. Each permitted operator, online or land-based, must offer its own self-exclusion and limit tools, and the length and conditions are set by the operator. This means an exclusion with one company does not stop you gambling with another, and online brands linked to the same permit holder may or may not share exclusions. Because a large share of online gambling available in Mexico is unlicensed, people who want a durable barrier usually combine operator exclusions with device-level blocking software, bank restrictions and support from Línea de la Vida or a treatment centre.

The steps

  1. 1

    List every operator you use

Write down each website, app and casino where you hold an account. Check the footer of each site for its SEGOB permit number so you know who is responsible.

  2. 2

    Request exclusion from each one

Use the responsible gaming or account settings section of each site, or contact customer support in writing. In casinos, ask security or the customer service desk for the self-exclusion form.

  3. 3

    Provide identification

Operators normally ask for an official ID such as an INE voter card or passport, and may verify your CURP. Land-based venues often take a photograph.

  4. 4

    Choose the longest period offered

Terms are set by each operator, commonly from several months to permanent. Ask for written confirmation of the start date and length.

  5. 5

    Close balances and stop marketing

Withdraw remaining funds and ask that all promotional emails, SMS and calls stop. Unsubscribe from affiliate mailing lists too.

  6. 6

    Block what operators cannot

Install gambling blocking software on all devices and ask your bank whether it can block payments to gambling merchants. See our guide to bank gambling blocks.

  7. 7

    Get support

Call Línea de la Vida for referral to free treatment, or find a Jugadores Anónimos meeting. A trusted person can help you stick to the plan.

Before you start — what to know

  • There is no single register: each operator's exclusion applies only to that operator.
  • Unlicensed offshore sites are not bound by Mexican rules; blocking software is the main defence.
  • Ask whether an operator's exclusion covers all its brands and its land-based casinos.
  • Revocation terms are set by the operator; some allow reinstatement after a cooling-off period, others are permanent.
  • Proposals for a national register have been discussed as part of the gaming law reform but were not in force as of October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is online gambling legal in Mexico?

Yes, when offered by a company holding a SEGOB permit that covers remote gaming. Many sites available in Mexico, however, operate without a permit.

Does Mexico have a national self-exclusion list?

No. You need to request self-exclusion separately from each operator, and use blocking software for sites that ignore Mexican rules.

How much tax do online operators pay?

The federal special tax (IEPS) on online gambling was raised from 30% to 50% for 2026, and some states levy their own taxes on top.

Where can I get free help?

Call Línea de la Vida on 800 911 2000, available 24 hours a day, for confidential support and referral to treatment.

Procedures can change. Always follow the instructions of the official scheme or regulator. We2Bet is not affiliated with any self-exclusion scheme. Last reviewed October 2026.
