Gambling help in Netherlands
In the Netherlands, gambling treatment is part of mainstream addiction care (verslavingszorg), delivered by regional providers and usually covered by basic health insurance after a GP referral. Licensed operators fund prevention through the Verslavingsfonds. OpenOverGokken, a government-backed service, offers round-the-clock anonymous information and advice by phone and chat for gamblers and their families, and can refer people to local help. Stichting AGOG runs free weekly self-help groups across the country with no waiting lists. The Cruks register is the backbone of exclusion, and a Loket Kansspel (gambling help desk) is being developed to bring prevention, information and referral together. Free debt advice is available through municipal schuldhulpverlening.
